Do you need to restore your painting before you sell it?

Paintings should always be restored, regardless of an eventual sale.
Making the artwork legible is the main requirement for an expertise. Yet, it is not uncommon to find owners who categorically refuse to restore their paintings.

We only top quality materials. Our natural pigments are hand-made following the ancient recipts of Old Masters.

This is totally unreasonable and uneconomic: the expertise NEEDS the artwork to be legible and have a reputable condition report. Yellowed varnishes and incautious repaintings may often alter and prejudice the legibility, and may lead to incorrect evaluations.

A restoration before the artwork get sold may dramatically increase its value and attract a wider range of potential buyers.
